Mink/Cashmere Yarn

Yarn Scoop Yarn and Knitting News

Great Northern Yarns is the exclusive American retailer of 70% mink/30% cashmere yarn in the USA. Amazingly, the mink comes from sheared minks. Unlike a mink coat, where the mink is killed and skinned, the mink fiber used for the yarns leaves the minks unharmed.

The mink cashmere yarn has many unique properties. Knitting stimulates a blossoming of the mink fibers creating a lovely halo effect. Our cashmere is incredibly soft and light, carefully spun from the finest cashmere fibers sourced from our partner farm in the western part of Inner Mongolia.

Can you resist? Are you sure? Because it’s only $19.50 for a skein of 230 yards of this deliciousness. You could totally make a cowl out of that. Just sayin’.

New Album By Savannah Jo Lack – “Knitting Songs”

Yarn Scoop Yarn and Knitting News

It doesn’t sound like any of the songs are actually about knitting, but it’s still kinda neat!

By substituting older instruments for the macho posturing of electric guitars, she’s unearthed a fresh and spectacular soundscape that bears a timeless affinity with her achingly beautiful, husky, feminine voice.

PROTIP: If you’re looking for a knitting song you can’t quite remember, then you’re probably thinking of either “Undone – The Sweater Song” by Weezer or “The Sweater” by Meryn Cadell.

“Knitting Green” Review

The Mother Nature Network has a review of Ann Budd’s new knitting book “Knitting Green.”

Knitting Green goes into solutions, highlighting eco-friendlier choices people can knit together using the many new greener yarns now on the market. Patterns range from the Back-to-Nature Hat made with organic O-Wool, an all-North-American hoodie made with wool that’s grown, harvested, and processed, in the U.S — and for the really crunchy knitters, soap nut vessels for the laundry, knit with hemp yarn.

I’m impressed Budd worked soap nuts into her patterns! Way to represent for the eco crowd! Soap nuts are awesome!

Profile of a Dr. Who Scarf Knitter

Yarn Scoop Yarn and Knitting News

USA Today has a profile of a knitter of Dr. Who scarves.

“That was the seventh Doctor Who scarf I’ve knitted this year,” Tara said. “Last year, I knitted 16 of them.”

No mention of the BBC’s nasty predilection for sending “cease and desist” letters to knitters who dare print the patterns on their website.

Profile of a Yarn Bomber in Austin

Yarn Scoop Yarn and Knitting News

The Statesman has an in-depth article about a local yarn bomber.

In the art world, she’s the queen of knit graffiti, a movement she is widely credited with having started five years ago. Knit graffiti, or yarn bombing, is the crafters equivalent of a person grabbing a can of spray paint to tag a building.

Knit Night Dinner Party

Yarn Scoop Yarn and Knitting News

The Burlington Free Press has a wonderful article about the author’s knit night dinner parties:

The cake, or what was left of it, was a pound cake with lavender, apples and Poire Willem liqueur. It was delicious; the perfect blend of floral and fruity with just a little kick from the liqueur. The cake — sophisticated and challenging — was typical of a dish that someone would bring to our knitting group. The fact that it came out a big mess and she brought it anyway made us love it all the more.
