Stitch For Senate turns the charitable knitting of helmet liners for Marines on its head. (Get it? Head!)
The artist’s goal is to send a hand-knit helmet liner to every member of the Senate in time for the 2008 Senate elections. (The recipients can then opt to send the helmet liner on to a real life soldier engaged on the front lines in Iraq.)
The deadline for submission is August 16th, 2008. Instructions on knitting and sending in your submission can be found at the Stitch For Senate website and at the Stitch For Senate blog.

20 British MPs staged a knit-in at the Houses of Parliament to knit for Save the Children.
According to the press release,
“The cross-party knitting session gave MPs the opportunity to set an example to world leaders by doing something tangible to save children’s lives.”
Save the Children collects knit and crocheted baby hats and sends them out to newborn babies in developing countries across the world.

The National Museum of the Marine Corps is hosting the “Knitting For Marines” drive, which is collecting hand-knit helmet liners.
The helmet liners must be knit or crocheted in 100% wool yarn. (No acrylic!) The yarn must be either tan, brown, black, or charcoal. (The recipients prefer tan, so that’s probably your best choice.)
Links to suggested knitting patterns, more information about the project, and the mailing address can be found on the USMC Museum website.
