HOWTO: Crochet a Granny Square

granny square tutorial

Ivy at Home Ec 101 has posted a granny square tutorial with great step-by-step pictures and information.

“But granny squares are so basic,” I hear you thinking. “Who needs a tutorial?” New crocheters, that’s who!

I started out as a crocheter, and let me tell you, if you’re new to the craft, it can be hard to wrap your head around the granny square. And somewhat humiliating, since they’re considered the garter stitch of the crochet world.

Crocheted Cthulhu

crocheted cthulhu

Is it just me, or are knitters and crocheters inordinately drawn to the Cthulhu mythos? The latest entry in the field is Big Honkin’ Cthulhu (Now with More Tentacles) by Craftster member JenGoPop.

This handsome fellow features a paper towel tube for internal support, and craft wire to keep his wings looking perky. I think my favorite part is the curly tentacles – very squid-like!

I for one salute our crocheted overlords. [via]
