The Cape Cod Times published an article on a special-purpose knitting and reading group.
The Knit-Lit Group of Harwich, MA is for knitters and would-be knitters who have experienced a loss of sight. Each knitter with sight loss is paired with a sighted knitter for teaching and assistance.
Isn’t this a wonderful idea? Until we can teach service dogs how to wield a crochet hook to pick up dropped stitches, I think every city should have a group like this. The thought of being unable to see my knitting, with no one around to help, gives me a chill. [via]

In February, 2008 the Craft Yarn Council of America reported that knitters get their patterns from the following sources:
- 47% magazines
- 40% friends and family
- 31% pattern books
“The internet” didn’t even crack the top three sources.
Of the sub-set of knitters who use the internet at all:
- 18% use it to find patterns
- 17% use it to get pattern ideas
- 4 in 10 respondents said they would use the internet to find free help from experts “if it was available.” (IF?!)
- 65% of knitters under the age of 35 said they would be “likely” to access free online help.
The CYCA didn’t provide any information on their survey methods or the demographics of their responders. So unfortunately, there’s no way to tell if a sample bias is at work here.
Or maybe we need to start a real-world campaign for knitters. “The Internet Is Your Friend.”

June 14th is World Wide Knit In Public day. According to the website, WWKIP Day is “the largest knitter run event in the world.”
With events in locations all over the world, I believe them!
Knitters, represent!

By now you have probably heard that TV show “Knitty Gritty” has been canceled by the DIY network. Vickie Howell reportedly announced on her blog (although I am unable to find the original post) that she would be moving to the Lifetime network.
Boo, DIY Network! I only recently started watching DIY’s “Knitty Gritty” leftovers on HGTV. As soon as I start watching, it gets canceled. Typical.

Malabrigo Yarn’s main facility has been severely damaged in a fire. The mill is undamaged, but “the offices, the lab and the warehouse are basically ruined.”
Fortunately it sounds as though no one was hurt. No word yet on what this will do to the worldwide supply of Malabrigo yarn. However, it’s definitely going to be a setback in the supply chain. (Hint hint!)

If you’ve repeatedly picked up and put down a skein of the new Noro sock yarn, you’d better snap it up while you can!
The current line of Noro sock yarn colors is being discontinued. A new palette of sock yarn colors is going to be released for the fall.
